Instant Karma

Instant Karma

I had to share with you the gig I played at this beautiful venue on the 28th March, Fazeley Studios in Digbeth, Birmingham.  I have a lot of very talented musician friends in and around Birmingham and the music scene is young, fresh, eclectic yet experienced and friendly.  My promoter friend and artist Ben Drummond invited me to play at the first “Instant Karma” night there at Fazeley Studios.  With a name like Instant Karma I felt I couldn’t refuse the gig, makes you feel like it’s going to be a warm and cosy night doesn’t it?!  When you initially walk in the beauty of the venue hits you, I love that, being in a place of beauty, it makes you perform better.  It was just me on piano for the evening, so I stripped back a few songs and sang from my heart.  I was also slightly indulgent and covered one of my favourite Chantal Kreviazuk songs “Invinsible” which seemed very appropriate for the evening.  The photo is me getting ready to perform and my view of the audience.  The dim lighting let you see every face, which is normally very daunting but the setting, the mood and the atmosphere made it wonderful.  I love coming along to Ben’s nights, it always introduces me to some other fantastic artists, one guy captured me with his light, unassuming voice – Che Cartwright, his songs which had a very Americana feel, were lovely and heart felt, I just really liked his honesty which came across in his music.  I hope this night continues and that you can in the future come and along and be a part of the fabulous music we are lucky to have here in the Midlands.
